Frequently asked questions

What is your skincare philosophy?

I believe in efficiency and quality ingredients. I work with a spectrum of products, because skincare needs vary by person. I enjoy learning about herbs and oils from the earth and how they can effect human health while also appreciating the advancements in the science of skincare and carefully made formulations that come with it.

While I treat the outer layer of skin with topical care, I also know there is a lot going on underneath. This is why I’ve taken certifications in advanced facial massage techniques to manipulate lymphatic drainage and work with connective tissue and muscles of the face and neck.

I view my services as holistic in the sense that I take into consideration the many “layers” that are involved with skin care and skin health such as product, massage techniques, stress relief and lifestyle modifications if/when necessary.

What is Facial Gua Sha?

Facial Gua Sha originates from ancient East Asian beauty and wellness. A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Gua Sha done on the body is very different from the Gua Sha massage performed on the face. Facial Gua Sha utilizes a small board (usually made of smooth stone or crystal) to help assist in lymphatic drainage, release tension and remove blockages in the connective tissue and keep the mind and body in a relaxed state. With that being said, some results that can be achieved are less puffiness, a more lifted and toned appearance and a lighter feeling in the head and neck as tension has melted away.

Facial Gua Sha is like a work out for your skin, the more often you do it the better results you will see. Consider a treatment with me like a private training session. For best results a Facial Gua Sha treatment is recommended every 3-4 weeks for several months, eventually spacing out to every 4-6 weeks with home care practiced in between sessions.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

I have been certified to practice Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) on the chest, neck and face. This is great because one third of the body's lymph nodes are located above the chest with some very important ones hanging out in the neck. The Dr. Vodder technique I use for MLD was developed in Europe during the 1930’s by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid. It utilizes gentle circular motions using only the hands to help manipulate lymphatic flow. MLD has an anti-inflammatory effect and it calms the nervous system helping cells to regenerate and drain cellular waste that can become stagnant, this stagnancy can cause inflammation and can set the stage for premature aging.

MLD is also great for anyone dealing with puffiness or inflammation in the face. Best results depend on what the client is looking to achieve, after discussing your goals we would come up with a customized plan and like Facial Gua Sha is best done in sessions closer together and then spread out over time.

Which treatment is right for me?

If you are short on time, are coming in for some maintenance between other facials or want a facial focused mainly on facial massage, The Necessities 50 mins would be a great option.

If you want the full facial experience with more time, extra product usage and a focus on a fusion of facial massage techniques, go with The Necessities 70 mins.

If you want a massage based facial that incorporates some or all of the following: lymphatic drainage, connective tissue massage, facial gua sha and buccal (intra-oral) massage try one of the Sculpt Facials. There are 3 different levels to choose from.

If you want a facial that focuses a little bit more on exfoliation, product usage and adheres to Korean beauty methods try the Ritual Peel.

What is Liquid Microneedling?

Liquid Microneedling also known as Spicules is a common practice in spas across South Korea, where this treatment originated. Just fyi, the terms Liquid Microneedles and Spicules can be used interchangeably. There are different kinds of Spicules used in skincare, the main two are: crystalized Hyaluronic Acid and Hydrolized Sea Sponges. Both are shaped like tiny, almost microscopic needles. The needles penetrate into the skin, using controlled wounding (similar to actual microneedling) to stimulate collagen production. What it also does is carry other skincare layered on top of it into the skin further, making those products more effective. This is why it’s an effective anti-aging treatment. Spicules also help with resurfacing, creating a smoother look and softer skin. When peeling occurs there is also the element of exfoliation at play and this is the deepest form of exfoliation I work with. This is why it’s also good for acne and hyperpigmentation skin types. These treatments can still be effective when done just once but for best results a series of 4-8 treatments spaced out between 4 weeks is recommended.

Are your services safe for nursing or pregnant women?

Yes, any and all concerns a mother or mom-to-be may have may be discussed before any treatment begins. Please feel free to ask any questions during the consult time before the appointment or make a note on your intake form.

Can I bring my baby to my facial?

Non crawling babies that still sleep a lot are welcome in the treatment room. It’s a dark, dimly lit room with a sound machine and music playing. Baby should feel right at home. This scenario is  best for newborn-ish babies who will likely sleep through most of the session.

Do you practice Facial Cupping?

I do use facial cups in some of my services, usually flowing between a Facial Gua Sha massage or Manual Lymph Drainage. Facial Cupping is not like body cupping where circular marks are left on the skin. It utilizes gliding and pumping motions to help lift and plump the skin.

Are your products vegan?

95% of my products used are vegan and cruelty free. If you would like a facial with no animal products (such as honey) please let me know beforehand on your intake form.

What is Buccal AKA Intra-Oral Massage

Buccal Massage, pronounced like the word buckle, is a massage technique that effectively tones and sculpts the mid and lower parts of the face. It improves lymph flow, relaxes tight jaw muscles, helps with TMJ pain, reduces headaches from clenching teeth and improves circulation for a healthy glow. This massage technique is done by working inside and outside the mouth, along the cheeks and jawline while wearing gloves.

I'm a Bride to be, When should I start treatments?

I would suggest a monthly facial 3-6 months before the big day. Since all facials are customized the day of, we can focus on something a little different each time as necessary.

Do you have any packages?

Yes! I have a running special where if you purchase 4 services upfront you will receive 10% off each service. Packages are nice because there is no check out after a relaxing service, it saves on costs and it keep clients on a good routine.
